what should be on my 1968 reading list?

Earlier today, I listened to an interview on WAMU with reporters who covered Ferguson, Missouri and Los Angeles after the multiple & egregious failures of the state. Because of my frustration re the reporter's questions, I want to be knowledgable not only about dc in 1968 but also other local, national and international contexts across time.

What should be on my 1968 reading list?  What books and other materials can help individuals interested in Los Angeles, Ferguson, DC, Vietnam, Paris, Ghana, Mexico, etc. speak to and learn from each other (in English!)?

From your suggestions, I hope to convene f2f and digital reading groups.
