19 october 1968 & afro american imports prepares for grand opening near howard university

#OTD 19 October 1968 The owners of Afro American Imports (2212 Georgia Ave, NW) were preparing for their grand opening in November. Afro American Imports advertised custom made apparel including gowns, dashikis, dresses and hooded minis. It is also advertised earrings, masks, hooded minis, tikis, carved statues, art, and fabric from Ghana, Kenya and Tanzania.

The store was located across the street from the popular night spot, Ed Murphy’s Supper Club.
